Tsunami Backpackers
Located on the pristine Somass River, Tsunami Backpackers offers a safe, clean, inexpensive, laid-back haven for travellers of all ilk & persuasion.All dorms are maximum 4-bed rooms. Upgrade to private 1-3 person rooms, space permitting. Tsunami boasts an ever-expanding organic garden, which offers guests a truly awesome selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts & grains in season. Fresh bread, baked to your specifications, & served hot from the oven @ the time of your choosing, along with home made jams, juices, chutneys & salsas are also available, as well as the standard hot drinks & eggs, should you require. Springtime brings the return of the amazing hummingbirds to the garden, while late summer sees the rather large resident female black bear on her daily rounds to the back of the garden where she snoozes or munches on the ripe wild-plums, blackberries, apples & pears. Alternately you can stroll down to the river-bank where a whole community of black bear wander at a safe distance on the opposite bank...ideal viewing time is first-light at low-tide....or if you're game, take the canoe out & get real close & personal.... & of course, the ever-present bald eagles either circling overhead on hot sultry days, or perched on the boughs of the surrounding old-growth trees, add to the spectacular vista that is the Alberni Valley. Check-in is 24 hours with confirmed booking, so of course there is no curfew once you are checked in. Cancellation is possible up to 6pm 3-days prior to the day of arrival. |
